Frequently Asked Questions

While different projects will vary depending on the client, most of our vacant positions provide flexible hours for our coders. They can accept work on projects that match their skill sets and interests, and are then provided project-specific training on the respective coding needs of our clients. Coders are then assigned to a work queue, and are able to complete the coding that is assigned to them when it is most convenient for them. Because our clients do expect the work to be done quickly, projects that are assigned to you must be completed within a set timeframe. This may vary depending on the client, but it is generally no more than two days. Coders must complete their work on either the client’s system or if no client system, then on our Procoder® system remotely.

It really depends. Some projects require full-time coders, and so if you are on one of these projects, then you will just focus on getting that particular job completed. Most of our facility coding projects operate on a full-time basis. Many of our pro-fee projects also allow for full-time or per diem coders, which means that you may have the option to work on more than one project based on your availability and the availability of work. We will also sometimes have some short-term needs for projects that allow coders to add additional work from time to time. This will allow them to drop their hours back down once the project is completed.

Our facility coders are paid at an hourly rate for the work completed. The rates of our pro-fee coders are based on the type of project and coding that is being completed through a combination of a base hourly rate plus a piece rate. This implies that the rate paid is dependent on the project and coder productivity levels for most of our pro-fee projects.

Almost. All coding work for US-based coders must be completed within the United States. In addition, since we are responsible for ensuring proper tax reporting, employees who work in another state for any period of time that is different from their home location must notify HR in advance. Since we are working on records that contain PHI, coders must also work in a location that ensures that HIPAA privacy standards are met, and that no one else can view their screens while working. You are also required to have access to a reliable high-speed Internet service.
